First major mis-step?
January 16, 2009It’s the first time I’ve had a statement viewed unfavorably by most on both sides. Most of the time, there are negative reactions, but not from fellow members of AUDC. Even then, I’d always been able to weather it out.
Now, it’s different. I’m receiving flak from even staunch AUDC supporters. I wonder now if my initial statement was wrong, but intuition tells me it was not. It might not have been as diplomatic as my former e-mails– but if it gets the job done, even if i am hated by half of Asia, I will be happy knowing I did the right thing.
My job is not to please everyone–I can never do that no matter how hard I try. My job is to look out for the interest of AUDC, and that is only what I am doing. Asian Unity is in AUDC’s interest, but only if it is done reasonably. Core principles and values enshrined in our constitution, as well as former attempts from AUDC to gain reconciliation, will not be subverted or downplayed under my watch. If this makes me unpopular, so be it. But at the very least, I hope people realize I had (and still have) AUDC’s best interest at heart.
